During the 2020 Covid lockdown, our social feeds were bombarded with bedroom freestyling. We decided to jump on this trend and create #RedBullNextNZ - the search for NZ’s best new lyricist…. All conducted within the confines of being inside.
We partnered with SmokeyGotBeatz to produce a custom beat and put it out to the country and encouraged fans to record themselves rapping 16 bars. Smokey and Church (from Church & AP) chose their top five entries and the public voted on their winner.
The ultimate winner went into the Red Bull Studio in Auckland and record a track with Smokey and Church. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
